In the month of September both the 5th and the 6th grade worked on Pop Art projects. This is an introduction to art and expectations. The students worked on their drawing skills, tracing and creative coloring.
In the month of October both grades worked on creating portfolios to house their artwork. It is a fun project where the student learns how to create lettering, mapping out a drawing space, enhancing the work with creative coloring and changing letters into unique objects.
In the month of November the 5th grade is learning how to draw a still life drawing using contour lines. The final project will be on black paper using construction paper crayons. These specialized crayons, when used on black construction paper, make the drawing glow. The 6th graders are working radial symmetry. The technique requires a design on tracing paper that is repeated on a radial pie 12 times. Afterwards the student traces over the design with a sharpie to ink the project and will color in the design with color sharpies. It is a favorite with my students.
