Vocabulary:
Visual Movement - movement created by using dark or light values.
Elongated Shapes - cause eyes to move along them to create interest.
Linear Movement - both straight or curved lines or edges that direct eye movement.

Assignments:
Starry Night
Materials- Sketchbook, black construction paper, oil pastels and pencil.
1. In sketchbook draw 3 hills, 1 or 2 trees, a house, 8 to 10 circle stars and one moon.
2. For each area, choose three oil pastel colors and mark the areas in sketchbook with oil pastels.
3. Draw dashes in hills, trees, house, around the stars and moon. Dashes should go in the direction of what the focal point may be. (Example - tree, moon, house, etc.)
4. On black paper, redraw the 3 hills, tree(s), house, stars and moon in pencil.
5. Starting with the hills, do the following.
-Using first color, draw dashes in direction of the focal point.
-Using second color, draw dashes between the line of dashes created.
-Using third color, drag the color over each dashed line in a scrubbing motion.
-Using first color, drag the color over each line previously done.
-Make sure to draw the outline of the hill with first color.
6. Using the same technique, continue with all hills, tree(s) and house.
7. Using the same technique do the moon.
8. For each star, swirl each color over each other.
9. Sky- draw dashes and lines with color one and two. Make sure to fill the entire space.
- Now with the darkest color, color over the entire sky. Do not color over the stars, moon, tree(s) or house.
1. Using oil pastels, create swirly lines, circular stars and a moon. Fill up the entire paper with these.
2. Draw a city on black paper using white pastel. Include lighted windows.
3. Cut out skyline of buildings and glue to the bottom of the previous page where drawing of swirly lines, etc. are drawn.
