Balance
Balance Slideshow:
1. Have students open sketchbooks to blank back.
2. Have them draw three squares and label them Line Symmetry, Radial Symmetry and Asymmetrical Balance.
3. Students will draw examples in each box.
4. Students will write down a number list of 1 - 6 and take a small quiz.

Vocabulary:
Symmetrical - if the picture was folded in half, both halves would be equal.
Symmetrical - if the picture was folded in half, both halves would be equal.
Asymmetrical - one side dominates, but balance is still achieved.
Radial - similar elements radiate from a central point.

Creating a Radial Design
Creating a Radial Design:
Materials - Pencil, paper, tracing paper, sharpie, markers, ruler and circular item to trace.
1. Trace a circle onto the center of the page.
2. Using a ruler, divide the circle in half with a straight line vertically through the circle.
3. Using a ruler, draw a line horizontally through the circle to create quarters.

3. Using a ruler, draw a line horizontally through the circle to create quarters.
4. Draw two diagonal lines across the circle to create 1/8 pie sections.
5. Place tracing paper over the pie sections and trace one section. Create an interesting design in the tracing paper pie section.
6. On opposite side of tracing paper, retrace the design.
7. Lay the pie section (tracing paper) over a pie section in the circle and trace over the design. This will leave copy of the design. Do this for each pie section.
8. Trace designs out with a sharpie and color in with markers.
