Assignments:
Project 1: Introduction to Drawing - Everything in the world and beyond consist of lines and shape. Try your hand with each exercise to loosen up your hands and thought processes. These exercises are drawings of some things recognizable and yet others that are not. Drawing is learning to break down what is seen, into basic lines and shapes. By learning to do so, anyone has the capability to draw.
Materials: Paper and Pencil
Starting Level Exercise 1, 2 & 3
Begin with exercise 1 and proceed to exercise 3. This process helps students to figure out what to draw first. It helps them to break things down to simple lines and shapes.

5 Elements of Shape Handout
(Every student needs a copy as a reference during this project.)
After completing Level 3, use a rectangle template and trace it. Fill in all the white spaces with color. Cut out and glue to construction paper.
Student Examples:
Project 3: Contour Lines-
One Liner - the artist cannot lift their pencil from the paper. The drawing should be one line. (Pictures coming soon.)
Now draw the same item using Semi-Blind and Blind Contour lines.
Semi-Blind - artist turns body away from drawing table and holds object in hand while randomly looking between the object and back at the paper.
Blind - artist turns body away from drawing table and holds object in hand while drawing object without ever looking at the paper.
Project 4: (FINAL PROJECT) Still Life Contour Drawing
PRINT
Materials:
8.5 x 11 piece of black construction paper.
Construction paper crayons.
Drawing Pencil
Create a contour line drawing of a still life. Be sure to include detail lines. Using the construction paper crayons, trace the items in the still-life with the darkest color first. Using stroke lines, draw short lines from the outline inward with the darkest color, proceed with the medium color and finalize with the lightest color. Using white or a light color, add a highlight color to the items. Be sure to color the space the still-life item is sitting on.
